Welcome to GermsWorld Celtos Hell Gate Terrain page 2

Step 11
Everytime I've ever painted stone I've gone straight for grey. But natural stone is rarely grey so I decided to go for more of a sand stone look for the Hell gate.

So I painted the whole thing in Coat d'arms paint number 528 'Russian Brown'

Step 12
Once the paint had dried I applied a watered down brown ink wash to the whole thing. I wanted to bring out the gaps in the flagstone path and the arch.

As soon as the ink was dry I then went back and dry brushed the whole thing with the 'Russian Brown' paint.

This gave an ok effect but I decided to try and bring out a more realistic looking stone and so drybrushed it a second time with Coat d'arms colour 225 'Khaki' and a further last highlight using colour 233 'Linen'

Step 13
All that remained was to flock the base. I decided to mix up several different flocks. My normal green grass was added to a darker brown. I didn't want the entrance to Hell looking too green and lush :)

I stuck the flock down by applying a thick layer of paint (the Russian Brown again) and sprinkling on the flock before it dries. Most people use a glue of some sort but I have figures that are ten years old and still have flock on their bases using this method.

And to finish I added some long grass I got from a model shop.

So there we have it the finished Hell Gate complete with some of my Undead army emerging to do battle with the forces of the living!

Miniatures are from Brigade Models Celtos range

Just for a laugh I added a Hellish background for the Hell Gate in this picture. If I wanted to be really fancy I could print the background out and actually add it to the gate when on the tabletop......now there's a thought.

Hope you found this article useful!
